Learn more about Infusion Therapy

What is Infusion Therapy?

Infusion therapy is a broad term that encompasses fluids and medication being infused through an intravenous IV into a vein or injected subcutaneously with a short needle just below the skin. Infusion therapy is used in a variety of ways throughout different fields of medicine with applications including anesthesia, pain management, and the treatment of various infections and diseases.

What Conditions Can Benefit from Infusion Therapy?

Infusion therapy can be used to treat a variety of conditions. At Medix Infusion, we provide medical infusion and injectable therapies prescribed by a physician for those with chronic or acute illnesses.

Conditions Treated

Chronic Conditions

Chronic conditions typically develop slowly over time. They may get worse and can last months to years, or for the rest of your life. Chronic conditions often cannot be cured. Instead, the focus is to control the condition and improve the individual’s quality of life.

Some of the chronic conditions that can benefit from infusion and injectable therapies provided by Medix Infusion are:

  • Chronic Asthma
  • Crohn’s Disease & Ulcerative Colitis
  • Lupus
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Plaque Psoriasis
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Myasthenia Gravis (MG)
  • Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP)
Acute Illnesses
Acute illnesses generally develop suddenly and require urgent care. They can last a few days to a few weeks. In general, those with an acute illness will recover and only have minimal modifications to their lifestyle, if any. Meningitis, cellulitis, and staphylococcus (staph) are examples of common acute illnesses Medix Infusion treats with IV antibiotics.

Getting Started with Infusion Therapy

While each person’s journey can vary based on a variety of factors including treatment and insurance coverage, below is a general process for getting started as a patient new to infusion therapy.
Patient Process Overview
  1. Consult with Your Care Provider – At your next appointment, ask your provider if there are any infusion or injectable therapies that may help manage or improve your condition.
  2. Your Provider Writes a Prescription – If there is an infusion therapy treatment that you and your provider agree should be used, your provider will write a prescription for the medication and submit the order to Medix Infusion.
  3. Medix Reviews the Submission – We confirm your information, verify your benefits, and obtain the required insurance authorization for the prescription written.
  4. Scheduling – Once everything is approved, we will work with you to schedule your appointment at one of our convenient locations or if necessary, at your home.
  5. Feel Better! – We will work with your provider to manage either your ongoing infusion needs or one-time administration as needed.
